Trauma-informed, Resilience-centered Yoga + Meditation Program

  • Trauma-Informed means our teachers are educated on the physical, mental, and physiological impacts of trauma and inter-generational, historical traumas for an individual and a community. This allows our teachers to apply relevant Yogic techniques, during class, to help individuals self-regulate their nervous systems and create communal practices that live on past our class.

  • Project Koa Yoga brings community-building (e.g., Hawaiian culture, language, group discussion), movement practices (e.g., hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga, somatic movement), and guided meditation (e.g., somatic meditation, METTA meditation) to every class. We focus on providing a safe communal space to process, integrate, and metabolize life experiences.

  • Depending on age and community we are working with classes range from 20-60 minutes. The class is determined in partnership with site-partners, what is happening at the site, in the community, and teachers as they asses the needs of the students present for class.

Testimonials

  • I'm a Tita, I usually swing first, but this week I practiced meditation. When she got in my face, I meditated and then I hugged her. That wasn't about me.

  • "Oftentimes we get wrapped up in our daily lives. We forget to give ourselves a moment. It is like treading water for an extended period of time and not getting a break. I appreciated participating in staff yoga because it was a brief moment that allowed us to hold on to the edge, catch our breath, and regain focus and motivation to continue striving."
